#CongressFoundationDay: Rahul Gandhi leaves for a foreign trip

Founded by A.O Hume at Gokuldas Tejpal Sanskrit College in Bombay, with 72 delegates in attendance on 28 December 1885, Congress is all set to celebrate its 136th foundation day. Ironically, the party was founded by a British gentleman, which later on became the forebearer of the Indian Independence Movement against British colonialism. It has been often debated by the historians and intellectuals alike that the party was founded on the basis of the "pressure valve" theory, i.e., to contain the agitation building up since the first war of independence of 1857.

The Congress Party has initiated a campaign this time to mark the occasion with a hashtag #SelfieWithTiranga:

It also happens to be the death anniversary of Pandir Hiralal Shastri, also known as "Dadaji" by many, the first Chief Minister of Rajasthan who also founded the much acclaimed educational institution for women, Banasthali Vidyapith. Congress Party took to twitter to make this proclamtion also:

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) members have instructed the party state units to organise ‘Tiranga Yatra’ and run a social media campaign ‘Selfie with Tiranga’ mentioned earlier in order to engage with the youth. They have also issued instructions to follow social distancing protocols in the view of the COVID Pandemic.

However, a day ahead of the foundation day, Rahul Gandhi left for a foreign visit but also made sure to tweet a video glorifying the deeds of the party through the years:

Randeep Surjewala, as quoted by PTI, said, “Rahul Gandhi has left for abroad for a short personal visit and will be away for a few days". However the buzz is that he left for Milan to meet his grandmother.

There has already been a buzz regarding this on social media where the netizens have commented that "Rahul is not serious about politics and that he has gone to celebrate new year:

In one of his most recent tweet, Rahul Gandhi has urged the farmers to not to stop their protests against the recent legislations pertaining to the agricultural sector.
The question now remains as to who would do the honors. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is seen as a possibility since Sonia Gandhi has been avoiding public appearences due to her ill health.

According to checkbrand.online , an online sentiment analysis tool, Rahul Gandhi seems to be not doing well when it comes to public perception:

To bolster his public perception, Rahul Gandhi needs to take his responsibilities seriously and exhibit leadership qualities or else there would be a dire shortage of an opposition leadership in the largest democracy in the world.
