EARTHQUAKE TREMORS FELT IN DELHI NCR AND REST OF NORTHERN INDIA

On Friday night, a high-intensity earthquake struck Tajikistan, with aftershocks felt in the Delhi NCR and many other areas of northern India.

At first, the seismology division mistakenly gave the epicentre as Amritsar and set the depth of the quake at 19 km. Subsequently, it sent a modified statement confirming that the quake was in Tajikistan. It attributed the fault to a machine error.

The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.5, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

Last night, many individuals rushed out from their homes as tremors striked fear. However, no specific indications of any loss of life or property damage were reported.

"No reports of any damage so far in Amritsar or other parts of Punjab following the #earthquake. Top officials of @PunjabPoliceInd & local administration are keeping a close watch on the situation. Praying for everyone’s safety," said Capt. Amarinder Singh, CM of Punjab from his official Twitter handle.

"An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 on the Richter scale hit Amritsar, Punjab at 10:34pm today: National Centre for Seismology," tweeted ANI.

INC leader, Rahul Gandhi who was virtually interacting with some students of University of Chicago, was heard saying, "I think there's an earthquake over here."

A twitter user shared following video showing earthquake tremors.
