#Leaked: Whatsapp Chat between Arnab Goswami and Partho Das Gupta

Known eminent lawyer Prashant Bhushan made a shocking revelation on twitter revealing a 500 page document of conversations between Republic TV's Arnab Goswami and Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) Partho Das Gupta.

The chats reveal a connection between Arnab, the ruling government, the manipulations of the TRP and to serve the nefarious agendas of the BJP.

According to the reports, in one of the messages which is circulating online, former BARC CEO supposedly sent a confidential letter to Goswami saying that he had jammed the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) while Goswami allegedly replied that he might meet the Prime Minister regarding the same.

Certain other messages also suggestd that the CEO stated to Arnab that Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reform proposal to measure TV viewership digitally using special software installed in the set up boxes would not be beneficial for the BJP as well as the Reublic TV.

MK Venu, the founding Editor of The Wire made a series of tweets which made shocking admissions:

Ironically the whatsapp chat with Das Gupta was leaked on the social media on the same day when the Bombay High Court adjourned the hearing in the TRP Scam case till 29 January. What is more ironic is the fact that recently, social media has been already boiling over Whatsapp privacy concerns.

The former naxalite turned Congress MLA, Danasari Anasuya also tweeted regarding this incident, adding fuel to the already burning battleground against Mr Goswami:

Arnab Goswami has been facing allegations over bribing the ex-CEO of BARC to reduce the TRP's of other media channels.The matter came to light when BARC filed a complaint through Hansa Research Group, alleging that certain television channels, including Republic TV, were rigging their TRP numbers. The shocking whatsapp revelations have only made matters worse for Arnab who is already on thin ice balancing between his strenuous relationship with the Mumbai Police and the Maharashtra government. The crime branch is investigating channels like Fakt Marathi, Box Cinema, News Nation, Mahamovies and Wow music for purposely inflating viewership figures by bribing the households in which the barometres were installed.

However, the High Court has said that it will not take any coercive action till January 29 against Arnab Goswami and other employees of ARG Outlier Media Pvt Ltd in the alleged fake TRP scam case. ARG Outlier Media is the parent company that runs all Republic Tv Channels.

However, this notion is not uncommon. There are countless instances in the past when the state machinery has used the media to suit and fulfil its own motives. The fourth pillar of democracy seems to be rusting with corrupt and immoral practices.
