Mamata Banerjee’s Unique Protest Against Fuel Price Hike

Kolkata State minister Firhad Hakim became the fuel price hike supporter for TMC leader Mamata Banerjee as she crosses roads waving her stake on the rising prices of fuel in the BJP government.

Mamata’s unique protest displayed her sitting at the back of an electric scooter with fuel price hike hanging around her neck. West Bengal’s Cabinet Minister of Urban development, Firhad Hakim was seen riding the electric vehicle.

The price hike placard around Mamata’s neck showed the entire opposition’s say on the skyrocketing fuel price hike all around the country.

Mamata might be the one holding such a unique protest against the fuel price hike, but several opposition parties and its members including INC stalwart Rahul Gandhi previously criticized the same.

Calling out the prices unfair, Rahul said “The ongoing battle with the coronavirus is causing severe economic hardship for our crores of brothers and sisters. At this time, instead of reducing prices, the decision of the government to raise prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 10-13 per litre is unfair and should be withdrawn.”

Today the LoP Kamal Nath staged a walkout in protest against the hike and said “The government should hold discussions on growing prices of petrol and diesel but the Shivraj Singh Chouhan regime is trying to shy away from the matter. Congress will hold agitation and will continue to hit the streets against fuel prices hike.”

Mamata Banerjee waived at the roads while saying “We are protesting against the fuel price hike. The Modi government only makes false promises. They have done nothing to bring down fuel prices. You can see the difference in petrol prices when the Modi government came to power and now."

Mamata’s scooter ride was a five km long journey from Hazra More to the state secretariat and was aimed to drive attention to the daily increasing fuel prices.

She further stated that her party will soon hold a staged protest and will challenge the BJP government’s decision.

In her speech she mentioned rise in price of petroleum products is an attempt to overburden the common people of the country. While commenting on the renaming of the Montera stadium she said “I wonder if they will also change name of the country.”
