Twitter Trends With #SaveTemplesInAP | Multiple Incidents Of Hindu Temples & Deity Idols Being Destroyed | Includes A 400-Year-Old Temple

A string of vandalization reports of Hindu temples in various parts of Andhra Pradesh has integrated into a big problem for State Government with the opposition attacking the inaction of the Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. The ruling political party, YSR-congress is blatantly accusing the opposition rival Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of complicity in the incidents.

On Saturday, the political tug of war on the subject escalated with TDP President, and the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu inspecting the 400-year-old Ramatirtham temple in the region of Vizianagaram, where on December 28 the idol of Lord Rama was found vandalized.

The Director General of Police (DGP), D Gautam Sawang has raised an alarming situation in the state following the multiple incidents of Hindu Temple & Idol being vandalized. The situation of alert arrives as two more cases of temple idols being targeted were registered from the Vijayawada city on Sunday.

In one of the incident, an idol of the Hindu goddess Sita was allegedly vandalized at the pandit Nehru bus station. In another case, the Times of India reported that an idol of Ketu was vandalized at Sivalayam at Vuyyuru in Vijaywada suburbs.

During the early morning, the idol of Goddess Sita was found to be destroyed by the temple priest, and surprisingly, the temple doors remained closed before the priest’s discovery on the matter. The Priest then rushed to inform the officials, he reached Andhra Pradesh State Road Transportation Corporation (APSRTC) who duly informed the police authorities at Krishna Lanka police station.

The DGP stated that about 228 cases of temple attacks were documented in Andhra Pradesh in 2020, compared to 305 in 2019, 267 in 2018, 318 in 2017, 332 in 2016 and 290 in 2015.

“The police have so far mapped 2,600 temples across the state and have issued temple managements with notices requesting them to install CCTVs,” said DGP Sawang, Andhra Pradesh Police.

Just in past 6 years, Andhra Pradesh have known to experience the arrest of 8,250 miscreants with a history of similar offences against the Hindu Temples across the state. The DGP Sawang also urged the citizens to not to fall into the trap of rumours and help the local administrations to maintain a peaceful situation of law and order.

How many people on social media are reacting to the grieve incident

“Evangelical faith becoming hegemonic force in Andhra Pradesh. Attack on Hindu temples continues in state. Let’s raise a strong voice to save our temples,” said Y. Satya Kumar, National secretary for BJP.
