Prime Minister Greets Entire Nation As India Celebrates Its 354th Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti
On Wednesday, Sikhs from around the world, as well as citizens of other faiths, are all celebrating the 354th birth anniversary of their tenth Guru & Sikh Warrior, Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
Guru Gobind Singh, a spiritual leader, warrior, poet and a philosopher, was born in Patna in 1666 and was the son of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur. In 1676, Guru Tegh Bahadur was murdered by the Cruel Mughals for his denial to convert to Islam, and after his death, Gobind Singh was selected as the tenth Guru, at this time he was just nine years old.
Guru Gobind Singh fought against the Mughals, battled against oppression, and thereafter founded the Khalsa in Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib near Anandpur, Punjab.
Khalsa was led by a rigid moral code and a strict spiritual practice. In 1708, before his death, the tenth Guru proclaimed the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhism, a lifelong Sikh Guru.
On this holy day, devotees give prayers and go to the guruduwara in huge numbers, where spiritual songs are performed and langar (a selfless service of offering food to people, regardless of their caste, creed or religion) is served.
The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi too, greeted the entire nation on this auspicious day and shared pictures of his earlier visit to Gurudwara Sahib, He also shared a devotional video of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, showcasing Guru’s valour and wisdom for the protection of the Innocents against the Evil. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “The Guru Sahibs have a special Kripa on me that the 350th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji took place during the tenure of our Government. I recall the grand celebrations in Patna, where I also had the opportunity to go and pay my respects.”
“On the pious occasion of his Parkash Purab, I bow to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. His life was dedicated to creating a just and inclusive society. When it comes to following his values, he was unwavering. We still recall his courage and his sacrifices,” a caption by PM Narendra Modi.
