January 16 represents the birth anniversary of South Indian superstar Vijay Sethupathi, an actor extraordinaire, aka Makkal Selvan (People’s Treasure).  In a very short period of time, he has built his reputation as a versatile actor; seeking out diverse, demanding roles with effortless charisma. His impressive acting career appears to have left no stone unturned when it comes to pursuing diverse genres.

Apart from a cinema actor, he is also a producer, lyricist and dialogue writr who has provided his services not just to the Tamil Cinema but a list of other industries including Hindi, Telugu, and Malyalam film industries.

Born and brought up in Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu, the star moved to Chennai when he was in the 6th grade. He was a student of the MGR Higher Secondary School in Kodambakkam. The star also attended the Little Angels Matt HR Sec School. The actor graduated from Dhanraj Baid Jain College in Thoraipakam.

The celebrity said that he was not very close to a decent academic, but at an early age developed an affinity for filmmaking. He also gave a couple of early film auditions, all to no avail.

In his early days, his struggle was tremendous. The star once worked as a salesman in a grocery shop. He has also  worked as a cashier in a fast food joint for a time before heading to the U.A.E.

In order to make ends meet, Vijay worked as an accountant in the U.A.E., where he also met his wife Jessie. The two tied the knot back in 2003.

Vijay Sethupathi's desire to be seen in movies took him back to the cinema industry. He worked as a supporting actor in many movies until he had his big break. He appeared in 'Sundarapandian' as the chief villain.

The actor had a promising career in numerous language movies, but the film that gave him international recognition was 'Vikram Vedha' featuring R. Madhavan. Vijay played a negative role in this classic and won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor-Tamil for his excellent performance of 'Vedha.'
