Rahul Gandhi Visits Tamil Nadu To Attend Jallikattu Event, Calls It A Duty To Protect Tamil Culture | Twitter Trends With #Vanakkamrahulgandhi
Congress Party Leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, earlier today on the day of Pongal to experience an event of Jallikattu, a cultural festival celebrated annually in the state.
So before go further in this article, many must be wondering what exactly is Jallikattu? It is celebrated during Pongal (Makarsankranti in other regions of India) and the sole purpose of this cultural event is to pay tributes to farmers’ cattle stock. The name JalliKattu is derived from two Tamil words, ‘Salli’ meaning Coins, and ‘Kattu’ resembling a package. This package fill with coins is mounted to a ‘Bull’s Horns’ that participants try to retrieve in order to win against the competitors in the event.
The congress leader Rahul Gandhi on his arrival at Madurai, attended the event in Avaniyapuram post which he addressed the participants and spectators with the help of a Tamil interpreter.
The congress leader arrived at the event heavily guarded with SPG protection.
The Congress politician also had meals with locals, with the traditional South Indian style & menu.
