Karnataka’s Shivamogga Incident Led To Death of Six People, Police Suspects More Death
In a horrific incident, six people were killed on Thursday night after a lorry carrying explosives exploded in Karnataka.
Th incident took place in Karanataka’s Shivamogga district around 10 km from the town centre. The reports confirm that the lorry was carrying explosives to a quarrying site.
The police officials confirmed that mishap was around 10:30 pm on Thursday night and the blast was so furious that it was heard by neighbouring Uttar Kannada and Chikkamagaluru as well.
If we believe the reports, there are chances of more people dead as there were 12 people in the lorry and the blast was severe enough to kill all of them. For now, 8 bodies are found in unrecognisable condition but there can me more, said one of the police officers.
The mining minister, Murugesh Rudrappa Nirani has said that the six killed were from Bihar and there are nine more bodies yet to be discovered.
CM Yediyurappa reacting to the incident said, “I wish to express my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. The wounded are being treated and I wish them all a speedy recovery. A high-level investigation into the accident has been ordered and strict action against the guilty will be taken.”
The incident took attention of the Deputy Commissioner and SP, rural MLA KB Ashoka and many others who immediately rushed to the spot and helped in rescue and relief work.
They stated that the blast intensity shattered the lorry into pieces and it is difficult to say if the other dead bodies will ever be found.
PM Modi also mourned for the deceased saying “Pained by the loss of lives in Shivamogga. Condolences to the bereaved families. Praying that the injured recover soon. The state government is providing all possible assistance to the affected.”
At the very same day, people from Bhadravathi town suspected earthquake and started coming out of their houses. But the Karnataka SDMC rejected the speculations saying there is no earthquake.
Manoj Rajan, Special Commissioner for Disaster Management, said, “Data from the nearby seismic stations at Udupi and Mangaluru have been collected and there was no seismic activity recorded. Also, information was sought from the National Centre for Seismology, New Delhi and no seismic activity was reported by them too. The reason might be that the activity felt is from a very shallow depth, possibly less than 5 kms and also the magnitude on the Richter scale is less than 1.0, unable to be recorded by any seismometer,”
However, the state CM has assured that he is taking caring of the situation and will provide required assistance to the families.
By now, two people have been arrested and at a much higher investigation is been proceeded.
Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said "There's been some negligence by the quarry owner and the operators. Police have already arrested the quarry owner and the dynamite supplier. Probe is on.”
