Elon Musk, the new owner of the microblogging service Twitter, has announced a $8 monthly fee for verified Twitter accounts. The verified accounts will also have "priority in replies, mentions and search, the option to post extended video and audio, and half as many advertisements," Musk stated in a series of tweets on Tuesday night. Additionally, he noted, users would be able to get around paywalls for "publishers willing to collaborate with us."

The popular social media platform Twitter already offers a paid option called "Twitter Blue" that was introduced in June of last year. Users get access to features including the ability to edit tweets and alter Twitter's appearance, including the app symbol, for a current monthly fee of $4.99.
