Justice DY Chandrachud takes oath as 50th Chief Justice of India; CheckBrand Assesses His Popularity Index on Social Media Platforms

The 50th Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, took the oath of office on Wednesday (9th November). Justice Chandrachud was sworn in as Chief Justice of India by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

His term will end on November 10, 2024. Judges of the Supreme Court leave the bench at age 65. The Supreme Court's second-oldest justice is Justice Chandrachud.

YV Chandrachud, his father, served as India's 16th Chief Justice from February 2, 1978, until July 11, 1985. The Supreme Court appointed Justice Chandrachud, who was born on November 11, 1959, to the position on May 13, 2016.

Prior to his nomination to the Supreme Court on October 31, 2013, he served as Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court. Justice Chandrachud presided over the Bomb case.

Justice UU Lalit is replaced by Justice Chandrachud. On October 11, Justice Lalit suggested Justice DY Chandrachud to the Centre as his successor in accordance with tradition. On October 17, President Murmu chose him to be the new Chief Justice of India. Recently, the Union Law Ministry began the procedure for selecting the new Chief Justice of India, requesting a recommendation from the departing CJI.
