SC criticises "patriarchal", "Sexiest" two-finger test in rape cases, calls for its ban, Audience digital sentiments decreased to 24.8%: CheckBrand

The Supreme Court of India has highlighted the issue of Two-Finger Test declaring that anybody who performs the "two-finger test" on a victim would be held accountable for wrongdoing, saying that the technique lacks a scientific foundation and instead re-traumatises women.

Criticised the “two-finger test” today, SC ordered the centre to look into it as it is no longer used in cases of rape and sexual assault.

Digital platform analysed by CheckBrand leading to the SC decision to prohibit Two Finger Test news in India. The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India became a digital sensation as soon as the news spread. Within the 24 hours of the order, its online engagement reached up to 311.

CheckBrand reports that audience sentiments dropped down to 24.8% in regard to the SC decision. Surprisingly, the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India received a 12581 Search Engine Score within the first four hours of the decision, according to findings from CheckBrand Analysis.

Since it has no scientific foundation for determining the sexual history of women and instead re-traumatises them, the Supreme Court determined that anybody performing this test on a victim shall be held accountable for misconduct

In addition, the highest court ruled that it was patriarchal and sexist to imply that a woman's accusations of being raped cannot be believed simply because she engages in sexual behaviour. When reinstating the conviction in a rape case, a Supreme Court panel consisting of Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli issued the observations.

The panel affirmed a trial court's judgement finding a man guilty of rape and murder while overturning a Jharkhand High Court order clearing him of the charges. The highest court ordered the federal government and the states to evaluate the curricula at all public and private medical schools and to eliminate the "two-finger test" study guides.

To convey the proper technique for assessing sexual assault survivors, the Supreme Court also ordered the health ministry to provide courses for health service professionals in all states. The Supreme Court has previously ruled that a woman's privacy and dignity were infringed by the "two-finger test" in 2013.
