Limited liability partnerships and businesses are permitted to allow uplinking of foreign channels from Indian teleports for beaming content in nations covered by the satellite footprint under the "Guidelines for Uplinking and Downlinking of Satellite Television Channels in India, 2022," which have been approved by the Union Cabinet.

According to the updated regulations, television networks must air 30 minutes per day of public interest programming on topics of national importance, such as women's rights, the environment, cultural preservation, and national integration. These topics include education and the promotion of literacy, agriculture and rural development, health and family welfare, science and technology, and family and child welfare.

After 11 years and taking into consideration technological advancements during that time, the Center updated the standards. The rules were initially released in 2005 and updated in 2011.
