Anna Hazare Makes U-Turn Agreeing with Farmers Committee

 Country’s hunger strike maestro Anna Hazare has announced withdrawing fast against the newly passed farm laws hours after he announced his succour for the farmers. Anna further claimed the reason for cancellation is Union Government’s acceptance of his demands which include increase in MSP.

Responding to media personnel, he said he is cancelling the previously announced fast as he believes government’s consent to reform the status of the Indian farmers.

News agency ANI confirmed Anna’s U-turn hours after he announced his dissent over the three farm bills passed by the Central government.

‘Agreeing to some of my demands, the Union government has consolidated my wishes and therefore I am taking my fast back. The government’s assurance of regulating a committee to improve the farm laws is undeniable for me,’ Hazare stated while announcing his U-turn.

Previously Anna raised several questions and called the bigotry of the Central government condemning it for not befitting the farmers’ demands.

He said ‘I have been demanding for agricultural law reforms from so long but the Central government seems to ignore my suggestions. The government is acting insensitive in the farmer’s case and therefore I announce an indefinite fast in my Village from 30th January.’

Continuing his right to protest against the three farm laws, Hazare was seen raising fingers on the Central government saying ‘Indian farmers are continuously suffering and they are not even getting the adequate amount of return for their crops. I have suggested the government to implement the report of the Swaminathan commission which was earlier delayed by the union government.’

Anna later took his words back and said that the government’s assigned committee will carefully study the farm laws and its implementation and work towards the betterment of Indian farmers.

The Supreme Court’s committee including the Bhupinder Singh Mann, Pramod Joshi, Agricultural Economist and Former Director for South Asia, International Food Policy Research Institute, Ashok Gulati, Agricultural Economist and Former Chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices, and Anil Ghanwat, President, Shetkari Sanghatana has invited farmers views on the agriculture laws. The committee has announced 20th February as the last date for the views’ collections and suggestions.

The committee will be looking for ways to behead the farmers concerns, Hazare said today.

The farmers have been protesting since months but recently the protest turned into a chaos after the police and the farmers confronted each other. The 26th January incident led to Centre’s and its supporters condemning the protests but the farmers are continuing the farmer protests aggravating their interest in front of the Central government.
