#SUPERMASSIVEBLACKHOLE STUNS NETIZENS

The internet went complete gaga on the morning of the 14th of December when NASA shared breathtaking images of Supermassive Black Holes merging on one of their official instagram handle @nasachandraxray:

Since being shared, the post has gained over 25,000 likes and garnered several comments from the users. The caption read "bright dots seen near the centre of the image are just 3,000 light-years apart. Eventually, the two black holes will drift together, forming a larger black hole millions of years from now." According to the official official of NASA's flagship mission for X-ray astronomy, scientists believe that these black holes are in such    juxtaposition because they are in the midst of swirling toward each other.

Users expressed their elation on twitter and it reached the top trends in a matter of very little time:

NASA's programmes have always garnered support from space enthusiasts as well as conspiracy theorists.

A supermassive black hole is the largest type of black hole, with mass on the order of millions to billions of times the mass of the Sun. Black holes are a type of astronomical objects that have undergone gravitational collapse, leaving behind spheroidal regions of space from which nothing, not even light, can escape.

NASA's premier X-ray observatory was named the Chandra X-ray Observatory in honor of the late Indian-American Nobel laureate, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar.
