Ghazipur border has been converted into a police cantonment with border sealed with multiple layers of barricading. On site visuals were captured with cement being poured between dividing barricades under the police surveillance. Various CRPF companies have already been deployed at the main sites of the protest - Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur Border. Post the R-Day incident, the administration has ramped up with heavy security measures to avoid any form of mishappening during the upcoming farm union leaders led citizen march on 3rd of February.

Last Week, under the CRPF surveillance a concrete mixer was installed at the Ghazipur border, pouring cement mixtures between the multiple layers of barricading to create a barrier cutting off the protestors from entering the city of Delhi.

On the next day after the internet shut down due to security reasons at these highly critical protesting sites around the Delhi border, many protestors who had taken part in the R-Day chaos were detained by the Delhi police, the suspects included one journalist as well.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) denounced the clampdown and reported that more than 100 demonstrators have been missing since Republic Day, a banner under which farmers are agitating for the abolition of the three new farm laws, and demanding for the implementation of – ‘a legal guarantee for minimum support prices’.

The clampdown was an effort to avoid getting out "real facts" about the peaceful actions of the demonstration, the SKM said, adding that the government was attempting to ensure that the law does not alter despite having "manufactured" a story.

The clampdown at borders to restrict protestors into the capital was criticized by the Meghalaya governor Satyapal Malik, who was formerly the governor of Jammu & Kashmir and played a major role in maintaining the law and order in the valley, especially during the abrogation of article 370, forming Ladakh and J&K as separate union territories.

“I would alert the authorities that suppression is not the solution for any issue in the world. By suppressing, it might go down for some time, but emerges back up with much greater force than ever,” reported news agency ANI while quoting Governor Satyapal Malik as saying.

Khakhee With Round Metal Lances To Battle Swords

A photo of khakee officers lined up along a highway on Monday and carrying metal lancets, made the rounds on the internet.

“They were brought down as soon as senior officers found out. There is no system to supply steel lathis to the police,” a statement from Delhi Police while removing the new safety gears from the Shahdara, East Delhi, Police Unit.

The Delhi Police released a disclaimer after photographs appeared yesterday of police officers armed with metal lances and arm guards, ostensibly to ward against swords seen during farmers' demonstrations, and also asked those behind the pictures to explain.

The police in the photos were from one section of Delhi and, as the Delhi Police said today, they took the decision on their own, refusing any official instructions to introduce modern metal armories. According to reports, the unit, which is from Shahdara in east Delhi, has been asked for a clarification.

Journalist Sagarika Ghose in a tweet said, “Spikes, nails, walls, barbed wire , internet shut off .. all targeted at the annadaata or the farmers who give us our daily food, simply because they want to be heard.”
