China Recognises PLA Members Death In Galwan Valley Clash
Accepting the number of casualties in the June 15 Indo-China clash, China has today recognised five of the members who died in the clash.
The recent PLA report however did not mention the number of injuries, though it mentioned the regimental commander injury.
The Indian commanders have estimated a total of around 60 injured in the clash.
China’s admission came soon after the India’s Northern Army Commander stated an approximate figure of 45 Chinese casualties in the Indo-China clash which was reported by the Russian News Agency TASS On Feb 10th.
National Strategy Institute at Tsinghua University Director Qian Fang told the Global Times that ‘China unveiled details of the incident to refute previous disinformation that stated China suffered greater casualties than India or China incited the incident’.
China has been silent about the People’s Liberation Army since the clash that started in April between India and China.
PLA, on Friday reported ‘Five Chinese frontier officers and soldiers who were stationed in the Karakoram Mountains have been recognised by CMC (Central Ministry of China) for defending the national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Chen Hongjun, Chen Xiangrong and Xiao Siyuan fought to the last minute and sacrificed their lives. Wang Zhuoran, a fellow soldier, also gave his life to rescue his comrades when crossing the river to support the others.’
China also applauded the efforts of the regimental commander PLA Xinjiang Military Command, Qi Fabao and gave him the title of ‘hero regimental commander for defending the border’.
In June, a source close to the PLA told the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post that Beijing was “very sensitive” about military casualties, saying all numbers had to be approved by President Xi Jinping, who heads the Central Military Commission, before being released.”
The clash between India and China happened in Galwan Valley when the Chinese soldier interrupted Indian soldiers to march up to India’s patrolling point. Soon after this, Chinese troops arrested Indian soldiers claiming them of prisoner of war.
India and China agreed to administration of a buffer zone in the area, where there is no man's land between the two sides that neither side patrols.
