Indian Government Builds Whatsapp-Like Application Sandes

The whatsapp privacy policy has already been in discussion from long and to counter any further derelictions, the Indian government has decided to have India’s own whatsapp.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology confirmed the testing of two whatsapp-like applications which are named as Samvad and Sandes.

The MeITY said ‘These apps are being developed completely by the government of India. It is going to be an instant messaging app like WhatsApp. A need was being felt within the government for a very long time to have our own, independent, and self-owned instant messaging service. Development of these apps began way before the present WhatsApp controversy. It may entirely be possible that one of these apps shall remain for the internal consumption of government employees and not be rolled out for the public’.

The Ministry further clarified that the applications are necessary for Indians so that there’s no dependency on global corporate hubs and India can have its own communication channel. It further agreed that there’s no confirmation whether both the applications or only one of them will be accepted by Indians.

It may entirely be possible that one of these apps shall remain for the internal consumption of government employees and not be rolled out for the public, said the Ministry.

"These initiatives are all a part of the government's Aatmanirbhar initiative," a source said referring to Sandes.

It is also speculated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the application soon.

The application Sandes is available on Apple Store for public’s review. With ashok chakra at the centre surrounded by blue and white interface, the app for now, only verifies the Indian government employees.

National Informatics Centre is building various other applications including Sandes and Samvad under the Digital India rubric.

The government has announced that the application will be shared globally once its been tested and succeeds under privacy guidelines.
