PM Modi Addresses Farmer Protest Affair In Parliament: Here’s Summing Up The Session

To quote today’s session, it was all about "MSP tha, MSP hai aur MSP rahega”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s addressal to farmer protests was everything that the country was waiting for so long. The parliament session might not be the direct assistance to the farmers, but Modi clarified his stake on continued importance of MSP in Indian agriculture and stated that the government is ready for talks with the farmers.

PM while requesting the farmer protests to halt quoted former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh “ 'Those taking a U-Turn (farm laws) will perhaps agree with him. There are other rigidities because of marketing regime set up in 1930s which prevent our farmers from selling their produce where they get highest rate of return. It is our intention to remove all those handicaps which come in the way of India realising its vast potential at one large common market" ” He further urged that it’s time for the country to look forward and accept the beneficial changes in the farm laws instead of stalling backwards.

The farmers protests have gained undivided attention within the country and worldwide. Calling the protestors a new ‘andolan jivi’, Modi further stated to end the farmer protests and carry on with a suitable solution. He said "They can be spotted wherever there is a protest, be it agitation by lawyers, students, or labourers, explicitly or implicitly. They cannot live without 'andolan', we have to identify them & protect nation from them."

With the brand-new abbreviation FDI, Modi claimed FDI free India. He said that the foreign destructive ideology must be hindered in the country: "The nation is making progress and we are talking about FDI but I see that a new FDI has come to the fore. We have to protect the nation from this new FDI. We need Foreign Direct Investment but the new FDI is 'Foreign Destructive Ideology', we have to protect ourselves from it."

PM addressed the Punjab farmers, mourned their struggles in the 1984 riots and partition days and applauded them for marking the highest tributes to the country. “We mustn't forget what happened with Punjab. It suffered the most during partition. It cried the most during 1984 riots. They became victims of most painful incidents. Innocents were killed in J&K. Business of weapons was carried out in northeast. All this affected the nation," he said.

Reiterating the atrocities of farmers, he promised no stalling of the farm laws and assured that the year-long stalled farm laws will now be implemented believing it to change the country’s agricultural environment.

While the Modi government continues implementing the farm laws, the opposition including Manish Tewari, Jasbir Gill and AM Arif adjourns the meeting demanding revocation of the farm laws.

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait replied to Modi’s addressal with “When did we say that MSP is ending? We said that a law be formed on MSP. If such a law is formed, all the farmers of the country will be benefitted. Right now, there is no law on MSP and the farmers are looted by traders.”

Finally, he jeered the opposition saying “The Manmohan government talked about these farm regimes and the Modi government is doing it, the country and the opposition must be proud of this.”
