Messi spreads his Magic; Argentina Wins Incredible Final Shootout at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar

Lionel Messi had to wait years, decades, and possibly millennia to be crowned the best. He could have shown it without the World Cup. But he desired it, just like every other child in the world.

It took him a long time to achieve glory because of his advancing age and sluggish pace, but it all came down to penalties in the Lusail Stadium on the outskirts of Doha.

One of the best World Cup finals in history, if not the greatest, was held at the Lusail Stadium. Prior to Kylian Mbappe's spectacular equaliser that sent the game into overtime, Argentina had been dominating for the majority of the game. As opportunities swirled about at both ends, the football became even wilder. Argentina appeared to have won the game with a late goal from Messi in the second part of extra time, but only a few seconds later did they give up a penalty. The faultless Mbappe converted that as well, making history by scoring a hat-trick in the World Cup final for the first time since 1966.

In probably the wildest final in the tournament’s 92-year history, Argentina won its third World Cup title by beating France 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw featuring two goals from the 35-year-old Messi and a hat trick by his heir apparent, France forward Kylian Mbappé.
