Steve Smith Scuffing Rishabh Pant’s Batting Guard Mark | Australian Cricketer Caught Red Handed By The Stump Camera
Though India may have entered day five of the 3rd SCG test to save the test in mind, Rishabh Pant's counter-response of a 50 and Chesteshwar Pujara's optimistic aim to look for runs have provided the guest team a ray of hope for a victory. The Australian bowling attack Nathan Lyon- was under immense pressure, and a few missed chances have increased their difficulties in the game. The hosting team (Australians) have so far tried their best to unsettle the batting duo and one of them seems to be scuffing of the batsman's guard mark.
The Australian International Cricketer and the former team captain, Steve Smith was caught in the act of a cheating attempt induced with hatred against the 23-year-old Indian International Batsman Rishabh Pant.
Right after Tea/Drinks break in the first session on the last day of test-match and just before the game started again. The stumps camera caught Steve Smith shadow batting on the pitch and, before fleeing from the batsman's spot, he scuffed the batsman's guard mark. Rishabh on his return to batting end of pitch can be seen in the video, looking for his guard mark. Moments after, Rishabh asked the Umpire to provide the guard mark again. The video has gone viral on social media with hashtags #indiavaus #stevesmith #Pant where people have starting accusing Australian players of unfair sledging and demeaning attempts by the host.
“Sunil Gavaskar on Steve Smith scuffing the pitch: “It’s a nothing matter. Even if he scuffed Rishabh Pant’s guard, Pant came and took another one.” #IndvsAus @scg #SydneyTest,” tweeted Vikrant Gupta, A Senior Executive Editor at India Today.
Legendary Indian Cricketer Virender Sehwag also disinterred the matter with his tweet as “Tried all tricks including Steve Smith trying to remove Pant's batting guard marks from the crease. Par kuch kaam na aaya. Khaaya peeya kuch nahi, glass toda barana. But I am so so proud of the effort of the Indian team today. Seena chonda ho gaya yaar.”
Sehwag also took a dig on the events of racism against the Indian team players by sarcastically quoting their racism as sarcastic approach against Indian team.
What is batsman guard marking?
A batsman takes guard from the umpire to know where he is standing on the crease in relation to the stumps.
The bat may be placed on the crease either with the face in front or the edges in front. The common guards asked for are leg stump, middle stump and leg & middle. This is then marked with the boot on a turf wicket or with a piece of chalk on other surfaces.
- The location must be taken with the toe of the shoe on the side of the line.
- The head should be in a line above the off stump, with the pads and the bat shielding the view of the stumps from the position of the umpire for best judgment of the line and length.
- Ideally, your guard, pose, and general location on the crease must be such that you are a package of coiled energy waiting to be released.
Many Indians collectively surged a social media outburst against the Australian Cricket team.
