WEST INDIES VS BANGLADESH SECOND TEST MATCH | WEST INDIES OPENING BATSMEN GAINED A GOOD JUMP START FOR THE TEAM
In the first session of the second Test, West Indies made the best of a slow pitch after winning the toss, with openers Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell putting on 66 for the first wicket. The only wicket to fall in the session was Campbell, who made 36 and did the bulk of the scoring in that opening stand, though he was considered out by ‘Leg Before Wicket’ (LBW) in a questionable fashion.
Campbell's dismissal occurred as he tried to sweep Taijul Islam's left-arm spinner in the 21st over. Taijul had a full ball to angle in, bowling from around the stumps that went under the bat and struck Campbell's front leg. Umpire Sharfuddoula lifted his finger considering it a wicket, but Campbell challenged the umpire's call with a review. The decision then went to third umpire Gazi Sohel, who tried to evaluate if during Campbell's sweep, the ball touched the lower portion of the bat. But, despite a slight deviation on Ultra-Edge sound graph, which may also have been produced by the on-ground noise, the third umpire concluded with- no bat involved and affirmed the on-field umpire's decision to send Campbell back to pavilion with 36 runs.
After a few overs later, the West Indies team coach Phil Simmons, seemingly frustrated with the TV Umpire’s decision, and was seen having a conversation with the reserve umpire Masudur Rahman near the field boundaries, presumably seeking to understand more on the third umpire’s call to go with the field umpire’s decision.
Being the only happy moment for the Bangladeshi bowling squad which otherwise looked to be struggling.
The new ball was shared with Jayed, who during his bowling term, kept the openers on a hold. However, the short balls didn’t seem to be working for the Bangladeshis with most of them being stroked off the square.
The game of cricket is known for surprising twists and turns, anything can happen at any moment during a cricket match. A team apparently losing might unveil itself to be the winner in the end.
