EARTHQUAKE OF MAGNITUDE 4.1 TREMORS ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS

An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 occurred at 7:23 p.m. on Monday, at the southeast of Portblair, Andaman and Nicobar Island. Last week, a high-intensity earthquake shook Tajikistan, with tremors felt in the Delhi NCR and many other areas of northern India. At first, the seismology department mistakenly gave the epicenter as Amritsar and stated the depth of the quake at 19 km. Subsequently, it sent a revised statement confirming that the quake was in Tajikistan. It attributed the mistake to a technical error.

INC leader, Rahul Gandhi who was virtually interacting with some students of University of Chicago, was heard saying, "I think there's an earthquake over here."

The epicenter of the earthquake was Portblair, Andaman and Nicobar Island, India, 258 km south-southeast (SSE), the department reported. At 7:23 PM IST, the earthquake reached at a depth of 10 km from the surface.

The earthquake was registered a few hours after tremors were felt in Bihar after a 3.5 magnitude earthquake struck on Monday at about 9.23 pm. The epicenter was located at a depth of 5 km and was 20 km northwest of Nalanda in Bihar.
