India’s first Covid Vaccine Rollout Starts Today, Government To Buy 5.60 Crores Vaccine By April
India’s first consignment of #covidvaccin begins today with Serum Institute of India’s Covidshield reaching nationwide.
A truck loaded with 478 vaccine boxes will land at the Pune Airport, the vaccine boxes will be loaded to the plane and from there it will be distributed to different Indian cities.
Majorly GoAir and SpiceJet are assigned to carry off the vaccine while acting as the carrier for such a momentous mission.
The Indian government has ordered 1.01 crore of Covishield at Rs. 200 per dose. It aims to buy 5.60 crore vaccines by the end of April.
The Centre will bear the entire cost of vaccinating 30 million health care and frontline workers — employees across government departments, the police and civic bodies — at the start of the world’s biggest immunisation drive against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.
However, the cities that will be receiving the vaccine before others are Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Kolkata and Guwahati. Cities like Mumbai and others are awaited road transportation of the vaccine.
Hardeep Singh Puri, when asked about the involvement of aviation sector in vaccine transportation said “Civil aviation sector launches yet another momentous mission.”
Hardeep expressed his enthusiasm and said the aviation sector is confident about playing its part in India’s fight against the pandemic.
He further tweeted “Today, Air India, SpiceJet and IndiGo Airlines will operate nine flights from Pune with 56.5 lakh doses to Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Chandigarh.”
The Indian government has decided to distribute the vaccine to 30 crore people and the process will start from 16th January. India’s frontline workers, doctors, police, civil defence personnel, and sanitation workers are the first ones to be vaccinated. The vaccine rollout will then be administered to people suffering from diabetes and concomitant conditions.
Two Indian vaccines AstraZenca and Covaxin received emergency approval from the Drug Controller of India previously. But due to incomplete efficacy are on hold.
The first flight carrying the Covishield landed to Delhi at around 10 am today.
India has 2,16,558 active cases and 1,01,11,294 recovered from Covid-19.
India have reported 12,584 cases and 167 deaths in last 24 hours.
