On Wednesday afternoon, a pair of lawyers were hacked to death on a busy highway in the Peddapalli district of Telangana.

When they were coming to Hyderabad, G Vaman Rao and his wife G Nagamani, who practiced at Telangana High Court, were ambushed by mysterious attackers, pulled out of their vehicle and brutally murdered.

Passing motorists shot Vaman Rao's videos lying on the road but did not offer assistance. A week ago, Vaman Rao had taken a minor to the State Human Rights Commission after a she was sexually assaulted by her uncle, and the police was accused of stretching the case on her complaint.

“Two assailants committed the crime,” said Ramagundem Police, adding that they overtook Rao's car and compelled it to stop eventually pulling the passengers out and killing them.

Multiple individuals walking by caught the murder on tape. Mobile phone videos show the attacker pursuing the man on the road and stabbing him.

One of the videos shows him lying on the road while an assailant stabs him repeatedly. A bus is slowing down and honking. The bus then pulls away when the man on the ground stops moving and the attacker gets into his car and drives away. A biker who has paused to watch begins to pass, too.

"They seem to be trained killers. Just half-hour ago, Kishan Rao, father of Vaman Rao filed a complaint against Kunti Srinivas and others," said Police Commissioner V Satyanarayana.

"We are looking for him and 10 of his associates have been taken into custody. Six teams have been formed. Three DCPs, three ACPs, the Task Force and the Cyber-Crime Section are investigating. Besides the three named, we are investigating whether others are also involved," Mr. Satyanarayana said.

Last week, the couple had reportedly filed a formal complaint with the Chief Justice of the High Court of Telangana, stating that their lives were under danger.

The Bar Association and other groups denounced the attack and requested that the guilty must be arrested immediately. There is also an argument that no counsel should appear on behalf of the accused.
