CBI Likely To Question Abhishek Banerjee’s Wife Regarding Coal Smuggling Case

Abhishek Banerjee's wife, Rujira Banerjee, is likely to have been questioned by Sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday in the light of a coal smuggling event.

The CBI visited on Sunday Abhishek Banerjee's home, nephew of CM Mamata Banerjee, to inform his wife about the matter. The department had also called Gambhir to be interviewed.

Gambhir is the sister of Rujira who told CBI earlier that she is going to be available to take her case in her Harish Mukherjee Road residence on Tuesday from 11 a.m to 3 p.m.

The central agency will visit their residence from 11:00am to 3pm on Tuesday. Rujira Banerjee reacted to the CBI on Monday.

“Though I am unaware of the reason for being called for questioning on the subject matter of the investigation, you may visit my residence as per your convenience between 11am and 3pm tomorrow i.e 23 February 2021, “wrote Rujira Banerjee in her letter to CBI.

CBI has prepared questions for Rujira and will proceed further in Banerjee’s house. One of the officials said “ At least two bank accounts, one in London and another in Bangkok, have come under the CBI scanner. The statements given by Rujira Banerjee and Menaka Gambhir will be verified before further steps are taken.”

On Monday, in relation to a case of coal pilferage, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) called into question Abhishek Banerjeé, chief of Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Three hours after that, Menaka Gambhir's residence in Kolkata was abandoned by the CBI team. The CBI team also included two women officers.

The CBI had registered an FIR in November last year against the alleged kingpin of the pilferage racket Manjhi alias Lala, Eastern Coalfield Ltd General Managers Amit Kumar Dhar (of then Kunustoria area now Pandaveswar area).

Jayesh Chandra Rai (Kajor area), ECL Chief of Security Tanmay Das, Area Security Inspector, Kunustoria Dhananjay Rai and SSI and security in-charge Kajor area Debashish Mukherjee were also named under the FIR.

TMC is concerned that Rujira Banerjee (Abhishek Banerjee wife) has been convocated by the CBI.
