In November of last year, a FIR was filed in relation to suspected irregularities in the creation and implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy.

Apart from this, there were also "deliberate and gross procedural lapses" to provide post-tender "undue benefits to liquor licenses", said the officials.

The Excise Policy, 2021–2022, of the Kejriwal administration was the subject of a CBI investigation recommendation made by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena due to alleged rule violations and procedural errors.

Sisodia in a series of tweets said the CBI is welcome. He said these people are troubled because of the excellent work done by the Delhi government in the health and education Sector. That is why ministers of both departments are targeted to stop us from good work in health and education sector, he said. "The allegations against both of us are lies. The CBI searches happened to take place on the same day that The New York Times ran a front-page story in its foreign edition on the AAP government's "overhaul of public schools in the capital of India."

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, welcomed the CBI searches and assured them of his party's complete cooperation. "The Centre sends CBI to his residence on a day when the Delhi education model is hailed and Manish Sisodia's picture is placed on the front page of America's major daily, the NYT," he claimed.

"We appreciate CBI. Will provide complete assistance during the investigation so that the truth can be discovered quickly. Numerous cases have been brought against me up to this point, but nothing has been revealed. It will also result in nothing” Sisodia said. He also further added, "My efforts to improve education in the nation cannot be halted. It is quite regrettable that those who contribute to our nation are subjected to such abuse. Because of this, our nation has not yet surpassed all others.”
