Hindi Hain Hum: ‘Hindi is the simplest source of expression of our nation’, CheckBrand Determined Hindi’s Increasing Popularity

A language is an essence of a civilization and a lifeline for its evolution. A language is enough to define a nation in its vision, objectives and future prospects. The social media platforms have been stirs with comments and posts, on the occasion of ‘HINDI DIWAS’ on 14th of September.  Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on the occasion, “Hindi Unites Nation”.

HINDI DIWAS’ is celebrated in India every year on 14th of September in regard to HINDI becoming the official language of India. According to Article 343 of the Constitution, "The official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devanagari script." This is the day of Hindi, the language that unites the whole country.

Although in the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan in 1918, Mahatma Gandhi requested that Hindi be declared the national language. Gandhi ji often referred to it as the language of the masses. On September 14, 1949, two years after independence, the Constituent Assembly unanimously designated Hindi the national language.

Following this decision, and at the request of the Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti of Wardha, 14 September has been observed as HINDI DIWAS every year since 1953. On September 14, 1953, the country celebrated Hindi Divas for the first time.

Moreover, later on the 'World Hindi Conference' was founded in 1975 in order to promote Hindi on a worldwide scale. Every year on January 10th, World Hindi Day is held to promote Hindi across the world.

It is the official language of India and is spoken by over 420 million people worldwide. Hindi originated in northern India and is part of the Indo-Aryan language family. In addition to India, Fiji, Mauritius, the Philippines, the United States, New Zealand, Uganda, Singapore, Nepal, Guyana, Tibet and other countries have a decent number of Hindi speaking population. The Hindi language is written using the Devanagari writing system.

In India, apart from the union government accepting Hindi as official language of the nation, Bihar became the first state in India to adopt Hindi as its official state language. It replaced Urdu with Hindi in 1881. Following this, Hindi also became the official language of other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana & Rajasthan among others.
