India’s Foreign Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar: “…moral and legal obligation to make sure I get them the best deal possible”

Economic rationality stands for making unbiased choices without compromising on national interests which has been the sole pursuance of any nation in global affairs.  Amid the wide criticism of India for importing oil from Russia during recent ‘Ukraine Russia war crisis’, India’s External Affairs Minister S. jaishankar made a strong statement in favour of the decision on Tuesday during a meet with ‘Indian Diasporas’ in Bangkok.

The popularity of Dr. Jaishankar on social media platforms is enormous and contains quite genuine followers, who understand and appreciate his work. "This is the current situation, where every nation will naturally attempt to impose the most straightforward arrangement for its residents and look to lessen the effects of the high energy prices, precisely what we do", said External Affairs Minister.

He added that the Indian populace cannot afford the high energy prices and that the nation has been transparent and honest about its interests. "My rural has a $2,000 per capita income. These people cannot afford to pay increasing energy prices. I have a moral and legal obligation to make sure I get them the best deal possible" Mr. Jaishankar said.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February this year, India has increased its purchases of oil from Russia instead of buying the most from West Asia.  On numerous occasions, the Foreign Minister has defended India's imports of Russian oil on public stages. He had remarked during a 2+2 ministerial conversation while his visit to US in April that India's oil purchase from Russia in exceptional effort.
