National Herald case: ED Raided Herald House in Delhi

The difficulties for Congress Party in Herald money laundry case does not seem to get over anytime soon. Enforcement Directorate (ED) has raided Herald House again, on Bahadurshah Zafar Marg in Delhi on August 02, 2022. According to the reports, ED executed multiple searches at Herald House and other related locations. The case is linked to the investigation of alleged financial irregularities under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA). The case was first brought into the court by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and lawyer Subramanian Swamy in 2013. Furthermore, the Herald office is registered in the name of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), which publishes the newspaper owned by Young Indian Private Limited (YIL) and they are linked to Congress party. This happened within a week since Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi was questioned by ED for the third time. Later, Rahul Gandhi was also summoned by ED for interrogation. The petitioner had approached the court alleging that the assets of AJL, were acquired fraudulently and transferred to Young Indian Pvt. Ltd. Swamy had claimed that the Gandhis’ have cheated with misappropriation of the funds, by YIL paying only INR 50 lakh to obtain the right to recover INR 90.25 crore that AJL owed to Congress.
