A New Turn In Farmers’ Protest With Tractor Parade | Twitter Trends #TractorMarchDelhi As Delhi Faces Demonstration Today

Punjab, once treated as the wheat bowl of the Indus valley was the complete Punjab that included today’s west Punjab (Pakistan), Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.

The 1947’s partition shredded the land of Panj-Aab (Five-Rivers) and majority of Punjab’s fertile land (56%) was taken by newly formed Pakistan and what India was left with Included Mountain terrains of Himachal Pradesh and Present Haryana, the latter being an agricultural state. So yes, India’s Punjab is small in land area but it is greatest in will power. The new Indian Punjab still manages to share the title of India’s wheat bowl with the state of Haryana and we all love both the states for that fact.

Although when it comes to an Earth Moving Equipment called Tractor, Punjab holds the undisputed position for the love of Tractors. It might count as an agricultural machine in other states and places around the world but in Punjab a tractor is treated as the member of the family. A Punjabi farmer live by his/her tractor, they even have state level tractor competitions called Tochan where they tie towing shafts at the tractor’s rear end and pull another tractor mechanically connected to similar shaft. In simple words it’s like the Tug of War with tractors.

On the 43rd day of the long running Indian farmer’s protest against the three farm laws embedded into the New Farm Bill of India, the 7th round of talk on 04th January did not went as expected. The farmer leaders did not want anything less than the repealing of all three farms and Guarantee on minimum support price. These were

the only two demands left after the positive results with the previous 6th round of talk where two other demands were agreed up on by the two sides. After the unsatisfactory outcome from the 7th round of talk, the farmers have further agitated their protest. They will now intensify their protest by launching a tractor parade on the same day as the republic day parade and they called it Tractor March.

Today on Thursday, the farmer unions have decided to show a demonstration of the parade where they’ll pass their convoy of tractors protesting against the new farm bill. The advancement in protest has already grabbed social media attention with Twitter trending with hashtags #TractorMarchDelhi and #Tractor2Twitter.

Punjab’s famous musician and actor Harbhajan Mann tweeted a picture of Tractor March with the caption calling Farms as their Mother and Pride (Turban).

The Daily News and Analysis reported traffic diversion in NCR due to tractor march, presented an article with routes to avoid.

“As farmers take out #TractorMarchDelhi we stand in solidarity as they brave the cold&rain to get the anti-farmer laws repealed. These laws were passed w/o consulting farmers or States,&w/o discussion&vote in Parliament. It is only Modi/Shah's arrogance which prevents their repeal,” said Lawyer and Activist Prashant Bhushan.

“Vehicles will not be allowed to get on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway from Beel Akbarpur and Sirsa cut towards Palwal from 12 pm to 3 pm. #FarmersProtest #TractorMarchDelhi #Delhitraffic,” tweeted online news and media portal India.com.

Short Videos News platform Editorji tweeted a video straight from the tractor march protest from its official twitter handle and wrote, “Thousands of farmers protesting against the new #FarmLaws will carry out a tractor rally today on the eastern and western peripheral expressways that form a ring around Delhi.”
