Ayushman Bharat will now benefit J&K: PM's New Year gift to the people

Congratulating the people for participating in the recent DDC polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the launch of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) SEHAT scheme for all the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. And this time, he did it in style once again, wearing the traditional Kashmiri pheran.
 

Under this, 229 govt, 35 private hospitals will offer services pertaining to the scheme.

Speaking of the scheme, Home Minister Amit Shah stated : "Under this scheme, people of J&K will be able to avail free medical facilities up to Rs 5 lakh."
According to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, over 10 lakh farmers have received financial help under PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme so far. The erstwhile controversial Article 370 prevented the centre from directly implementing its policies in Kashmir, the removal of which, although debated, has opened new dimensions for development and progress in the state.

According to the official sources, the AB-PMJAY SEHAT scheme was launched by the government on September 23, 2018, to provide free access to healthcare for 40 per cent of residents in India. The scheme uses the eligibility criteria determined from the Socio-Economic and Caste Census 2011 and has no restriction on family size, age or gender.

The programme is a part of Indian government's National Health Policy and is administered by the National Health Authority. PM-JAY offers service to 50 crore (500 million) people and is the world's largest government sponsored healthcare program. The scheme also comprises of a robust IT structure making it work in conjunction with the Digital India scheme:

The key features of this scheme are as follows:

⦁    The scheme provides health coverage for 10 crores households or 50 crores Indians
⦁    It provides a cover of 5 lakh per family per year for medical treatment in empanelled hospitals, both public and private
⦁    offers cashless payment and paperless recordkeeping through the hospital or doctor's office
⦁    Using criteria from the Socio Economic and Caste Census 2011 to determine eligibility for benefits
⦁    There is no restriction on family size, age or gender.
⦁    All previous medical conditions are covered under the scheme.
⦁    It covers 3 days of pre-hospitalisation and 15 days of post-hospitalisation, including diagnostic care and expenses on medicines.
⦁    The scheme is portable and a beneficiary can avail medical treatment at any PM-JAY empanelled hospital outside their state and anywhere in the country.
The government has also announced that this scheme will also encompass the provision of  access to free COVID-19 testing.
PM-JAY-SEHAT is the extension of the scheme to the state of Kashmir.
