Babul Supriyo: ‘Hanuma Vihari Murdered Cricket’ | The Union Minister Faces Huge Outrage Over Social Media

As Ravichandran Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari scored an unforgettable tie for the Indian side, Union Minister Babul Supriyo's tweet condemning the latter caused an uproar among cricket fans.

On the Fifth day of the Third Test versus Australia, Indian middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari, along with Indian senior cricketer R Ashwin, yet again proved why Test cricket is considered to be the most difficult and purest form of cricket, as both the batsmen drew a historic tie under the captaincy of Ajinkya. With several players already suffering game injuries, to make the situation worse, Hanuma Vihari stumbled with painful cramps earlier on the final day and could barely walk. Even after this, as he went off to combat for 161 deliveries, a tweet from Union Minister Babul Supriyo caused an uproar on social networking sites.

Given the situation, with the set batsmen in the dressing room, the idea that the blue team kept was to hold the match to avoid defeat. This is what Hanuma did when he confronted 161 deliveries and managed to score only 23 runs. That being said, Indian Union Minister Supriyo still blamed the Indian batsman framing it a flawed method, and said that Vihari had 'murdered cricket' by scoring just 7 runs off the first 109 balls he played.

“Playing 109 balls to score 7 !That is atrocious to say the least•Hanuma Bihari has not only killed any Chance for India to achieve a historic win but has also murdered Cricket.. not keeping win an option, even if remotely, is criminal. PS: I know that I know nothing abt cricket,” wrote Union Minister Babul Supriyo.

 

“If Hanuma showed this little initiative of just standing& hitting the BAD BALLS for boundaries, India may hv got this historic win GIVEN that Pant did what no one expected•And, I am reiterating that it's ONLY the bad balls that cud hv been hit given Hanuma was set batman by then,” Supriyo added.

 

Moments after Minister’s demeaning thread of tweets, he faced a sudden and humongous backlash from the fans of cricket and other social media users too.

Replying Supriyo, Sports Journalist Boria Majumdar wrote, “Really? You can’t be serious: in my book we have seen the birth or Hanuma Vihari the Test match player. If you knew of his physical condition may be you wouldn’t say what you are.”
