‘Congress Chhodo, BJP Jodo’: Shift of Eight Goa Congress MLAs to BJP created Stirs in Social Media, BJP Digital Interaction Reached to 839.8K

Only two months after the Congress appeared to have avoided a defection attempt, eight of its 11 MLAs, led by key leaders Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo, shifted to the ruling BJP party of the state, reducing the opposition party to only three members in a House of 40.

CheckBrand investigated the Congress Party's popularity index on several social media platforms to evaluate its digital presence. Surprisingly, the public searches for the Congress Party are, with positive sentiments reaching up to 6.2% and a negative trend of 20% on social media sites.

It has been searched for over 11535 times on the internet and is constantly trending on social networking sites. CheckBrand determined its digital interaction reaching up to 69.6K by September 14th, 2022.

Michael Lobo acknowledged to the media, “We have joined the BJP to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant...'Congress chhodo, BJP jodo'.”

Amid Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' (Unite India March), the mass shift has been shameful for the party, during which the BJP has been subjected to counters such as “Pehle Apni Party Jodo.”

With eight MLAs defecting as a group representing two-thirds of the party's strength, they are not disqualified under the anti-defection statute.

Michael Lobo's wife, Delilah Lobo, Rajesh Phaldesai, Kedar Naik, Sankalp Amonkar, and others are among them.

In addition to above analysis, CheckBrand evaluated the BJP's internet presence also to identify its acceleration on social media. According to CheckBrand, the BJP has been trending on social media platforms following the announcement of MLA's Shift into BJP; it has received 5% good responses from viewers and 47% negative ones too.

BJP has been looked for 10976 times on the internet and is continually trending on social networking platforms. On September 14th, 2022, its ‘Search Engine Score’ reached up to 839.8K, according to CheckBrand.

The initial attempt at defection, however, was thwarted in July when the Congress party accused Micheal Lobo and Kamat of plotting a defection. Disqualification applications have been filed against them. These defections will leave Congress with three MLAs and opposition parties with seven.
