V K SASIKALA RECEIVES A GRAND WELCOME ON RETURN TO TAMIL NADU AFTER FOUR YEARS
The expelled AIADMK leader Sasikala returned to Tamil Nadu on Monday, received a grand welcome after finishing her four-year prison term in Bengaluru regarding a case on corruption. She entered Tamil Nadu amid indications of a conflict with the ruling political party, AIADMK which was once controlled headed by her.
Sasikala was a close aide to the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, and was considered to be a strong contender for becoming the next chief minister after the sad demise of Jayalalithaa.
Sasikala entered Tamil Nadu state border at Athipalli in Krishnagiri district, around 10 am in the morning, and was welcomed by her supporters with drum beats, dancing, and by showering of flowers at her convoy.
She offered her prayers at a Mariamman temple in Hosur town, about 40 Kilometers from the city of Bengaluru.
The ruling party had objected to the state police when following her release when she was seen using the party flag. Later on, the Tamil Nadu police tacitly warned her squad.
A few days earlier, the state Law Minister CV Shanmugam had filed a complaint to the police chief regarding the use of party flag by the expelled AIADMK leader.
“The AIADMK flag is our property, and we are not afraid of anyone,” said the state Law Minister.
The return of Sasikala is expected to revamp Tamil Nadu's politics ahead of the May elections, even though, because of her conviction, she cannot compete for elections for a period of six years. She still belongs to the community of Thevar, a major AIADMK voting bank.
Supporters of Sasikala, along with a section of AIADMK members, are preparing a major reception for her return to Tamil Nadu, particularly in the Chennai capital.
