India Might Have Its Own Application Store Dominant To Google and Apple
The Central government has finally decided to consider the demands of the Indian entrepreneurs and open a new Indian application store.
The technology entrepreneurs have been demanding an Indian app store dominant to the store giants from Google and Apple.
Though India already has a separate app store that is government centric, there might be chances of pushing it to betterment and launching a complete new Indian application store.
India’s Union Minister for electronics and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad accepted the idea and said that the Indian government is looking forward to such notable ideas from the emerging entrepreneurs.
The Indian startups have been criticizing Google's Android platform calling the platform an asphyxiate to domestic success.
Previously when Google announced removal of the Paytm app from its playstore citing gambling policies and restrictions, the app expressed its concern over Google’s actions.
Similarly, Vishal Gondal, the co-founder of nCore Games also demanded for a local app store.
The entrepreneur said “It’s absolutely necessary to have a local app store. If we have to give 30% fees to Google and also pay for customer acquisition, how will our budding businesses survive?”
Since Google and Apple already charge high fees from the app creators, they have now demanded local app stores that are made in India.
India already runs a mobile app store that lists over 1200 mainly government-backed applications, but also Paytm, and the government could also consider expanding that instead of starting from scratch, an Indian official said.
According to the reports, India will work towards developing a platform which will help in downloading every application without any charges. The initiative might be calculated in the storm of making an Atma-Nirbhar Bharat.
Google has previously said that fewer than 3% of developers with apps on its Play store sold digital goods over the last 12 months, and nearly 97% comply with its payment system policy.
Google further added that it might levy a 30% commission on payments made within apps on its Android store.
