36th National Games Grand Ceremony Begins With PM Modi, Garnering 54.4% Positive Sentiments of Audience: CheckBrand

A stunning opening ceremony marked the formal beginning of the 36th National Games at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat on Thursday, emphasising the country's determination to develop as a soft power in sports and Gujarat's exceptional organisational abilities.

In launching the National Games, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the need of making India a sports power. PM Modi said,“The victory of the players, their strong performance, also paves the way for victory for the country in other fields. The soft power of sports enhances the country’s identity and image manifold.”

Furthermore, Mr. Modi emphasised his government's unwavering support for athletes and sports, particularly indigenous ones. He said that the Games' mascot, 'Savaj' (lion), embodied the brave spirit of Indian youth.

A spectacular light and sound spectacle captured by 50 Doordarshan cameras on a 15-day notice delighted over one lakh fans at the world's largest cricket field, which was transformed into a huge stage for the athletic event involving over 8000 athletes from throughout the country.

“More than 7000 athletes, more than 15000 participants, more than 35000 colleges, universities and schools and the direct connection of more than 50 lakh students with the National Games is amazing and unprecedented”, Mr. Modi added.

While praising the Gujarat government for staging the Games so quickly, the Prime Minister virtually inaugurated the Swarnim Gujarat Sports University, which will be based in Vadodara. Neeraj, Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindhu, Ravi Dahiya, Anju Bobby George, Gagan Narang, and Dilip Tirkey were among those in attendance.

While Modi praised Gujarat's ability to organise such a large event in less than three months, chief minister Bhupendra Bhai Patel reminded the state of its Olympic aspirations.

Bhupendra Bhai Patel made his remark saying, “The National Games are being held after seven years. The Hon PM's ambition was realised in three months by the Gujarat government. The government has been very supportive of sports, and I hope that we can hold the Olympics here in 2036,” Patel remarked.
