#ShameonFacebook: How one Social Media Platform became a tool of criticism for the other

The December 2020 farmer's protests seems to have taken the country by storm. With factions forming for the either side, one social media platform became a podium to criticize the other. #ShameonFacebook started to trend on twitter after the Facebook page of Kisan Ekta Morcha, an organisation leading farmers' protest against the farm laws, was taken down over alleged violation of the website's community standards on spam:

Facebook took down the page after a live-streaming of a press conference was held on the facebook page by their representatives.

Following the news, netizens took to twitter to target facebook for its move:

Soon after the hashtag gained trend and following the social media outrage, Facebook decided to restore the page.

The Kisan Ekta Morcha on twitter also went vocal against this move by Facebook:

Thousands of farmers have blocked roads leading into the national capital for the past weeks demanding a repeal of laws that give them the option to sell directly to private companies. The government states that the change is necessary to boost farm returns and improve infrastructure such as storage facilities. But the farmers, mainly from the northern agrarian states of Punjab and Haryana, fear that the entry of private corporations would eventually dictate terms and the government would stop buying grains like wheat and rice,  eventually abolishing the Minimum-Support-Price (MSP).
