US Vice President Elect Kamala Harris Will Resign From Senate Seat Today
Kamala Harris, the US elected Vice President will resign from her US Senate seat on Monday with Alex Padilla, the California state secretary filing the seat.
Harris will end her four-year Senate career and will leave the office two days before she will be joining the Vice President office.
Harris has already started her resignation process and sent her notifications about her resignation to the California governor.
The Governor also announced that Harris will not pronounce any farewell speech due to the designed schedule.
With the double Democratic victories in two Georgia Senate runoffs and a highly polarized Congress, Harris will have the power to push any legislation, judicial appointments and Cabinet nominations languishing on party lines over the threshold and take credit for helping pass the administration's priorities. As president of the Senate, she will cast the tie-breaking vote.
Harris herself is the history maker as she is the first Black woman in California to serve as a Senator and the first Black woman Vice President of US.
Harris will be sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor on Wednesday i.e 20th January 2021.
She was all over the internet after her November speech when she glorified all the struggles she had faced throughout her career. She became the idol of every women when she said “While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last. Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities."
Harris has always been vocal about the racial injustice and had been sharing her extra-ordinary journey.
She once said “Yes, sister, sometimes we may be the only one that looks like us walking in that room. But the thing we all know is we never walk in those rooms alone — we are all in that room together.”
Harris won her seat in November 2016 and was sworn in January 2017 as California's attorney general.
