User Counts Surge For Whatsapp Alternatives | Telegram & Signal In The Race | Reason! Privacy Concerns

WhatsApp has made one of the most contentious revisions to its privacy policy earlier this week. The policy change gives the app greater flexibility to connect with Facebook and make users communicate with companies easily; this also ensures that the app can gather a lot of your info.

If you're using WhatsApp, you've undoubtedly seen a pop-up on your phone anytime in the last two weeks, indicating that the app has changed its privacy policy—and many would've instantly pressed the bottom accept button to continue.

If you read carefully, you will have found why, and users will have until 8 February to read and agree to the new terms. Failure to do so would result in WhatsApp losing your account. So to be clear, you should agree these terms and conditions again to restore your account.

You may not be the only one who missed reading the terms & conditions. However, improvements to the privacy policies of a messaging platform with more than 2 billion users are significant. The elevated theme of this new policy is to further align with Facebook's product families, create resources for expanded business engagement, and collect financial data from users.

Due to this move, there's been a lot of outcry and users are thinking of leaving the Facebook-owned chat app and go to other alternatives. At present, Applications such as Telegram and Signal have emerged as the most considered options to replace whatsapp.

Most people are now moving to a privacy-focused chat app, Signal, and WhatsApp's privacy issues, making it the top free app on the App Store in India and more countries. It all began after Tesla and SpaceX's CEO openly supported the app, asking others to download it.

Another fact about signal is that the application is founded by the Co-Founder of Whatsapp, yes you read that right. Signal Messenger was created in 2018 by Moxie Marlinspike and Brian Acton. Reportedly, Acton is a co-founder of WhatsApp, too. Three years after Facebook acquired Whatsapp for $19 billion, Brian Acton left the organisation. Signal Network strives to provide its customers with an encrypted messaging service.

Meanwhile Social Media users are trolling whatsapp on social media networks for the change in privacy terms & conditions.

Techie & Famous YouTuber, Ranjit through his Twitter handle wrote, “What do you feel about the new privacy polices of whatsapp #WhatsAppPrivacyPolicy that take effect on 8 Feb 2021, if you don't agree your whatsapp account wont work. Will you move to other instant messaging apps like signal? etc #SignalApp.”

Some even mocked the surge of people leaving whatsapp with memes.

Now coming on a serious note, having concerns about our privacy on digital mediums, is our sole right and regardless to which country we belong, we all must receive equal treatment when it comes to user privacy on any application.
