#Bhoomi: Jayam Ravi's movie fails to impress the audience
The Tamil release "Bhoomi" featuring popular actor Jayam Ravi was released on the platform Disney Plus Hotstar (VIP). The film takes into consideration the trials and tribulations of farmers, an important issue in the light of the recent farmer's protests in the country.
However, the film could not to garner any considerable applause from the viewers and movie buffs termed it as a failed attempt:
The film draws some resemblence from the movie Swades featuring Shah Rukh Khan. Bhoominathan (Jayam Ravi) is a scientist working for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and he is all set to travel to the Mars to try and explore whether it is fit for life. But in the intervening month long break, he flies down from the US to his beloved Tamil Nadu, where he finds farmers starving because their fields are barren. There is no rainfall, there is virtually no underground water, which has been, as we are told, drawn by giant industries making motorcars, aerated drinks and even jeans and thus begins the journey to bring about a change.
But unlike Swades which was carefully crafted, the screenplay fails to impress as it is sugarcoated with action packed scenes and dance performances, completely unnecessary in the due course of story narration. Therefore many critics have given it an average rating.
Another issue which the viewers pointed out was that the protagonist "knows it all". He seems to have a solution for everything which basically makes the screenplay less challenging. Furthermore, people have pointed out that the movie qualifies as a "cringe" or a "masala-fantasy genre".
However, the movie addresses a very relevant issue of farmers being exploited at the hands of the corporates: a reality which they face every day.
