If the entire world is to been seen a one big society of human species, it’ll be a patriarchal one, though it’s unlike medieval era, where the situation was much worse, yet we humans have an embedded trait of differentiating things, places, languages, men and women. Women, unfortunately becomes the prime target of any society where they often face barriers in an attempt to cage their thoughts, freedom, and the beauty of living a dream.
Tribhanga- Tedhi Medhi Crazy, A Renuka Shahane's Hindi directorial debut, is a film that surrounds women of three different generations. Starring Kajol, Tanvi Azmi, and Mithila Palkar, the story is three family members of has to go through various kinds of family struggles and outcomes of their decisions through the journey of life.
A event impacting their lives, or say, completely transforms it, brings together three generation of women in order to introspect their situations and conclude whether or not they were right with their decisions. The film is seen as chamber piece that tries to manage through difficulties these women and people around them face, and also how they come over it.
The refreshing thing about Tribhanga — parts of the story can sound repetitive, but every bit helps to strengthen the storyline, optimistic image that director tries to reach is something that speaks about women of deny to fall in line and does not break easy. The film is unambiguous, but not uncompromising.
Indeed Tribhanga should not succumb to generic male bashing when asking for errant citizens and social ills. Everything but fine are the women in the movie, Mother and Grandmother included. They understand their own disadvantages easily. The mother is not someone who would lose everything for the sake of the family, she is shown as person with her own set of ambitions.
Shahane is far more confident when it comes to her women. They deal with each other's problems and eccentricities, are encouraged to make errors, and develop their individual routes. This seems an utter joy.
