India’s International Tea Day

International Tea Day is celebrated in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Malaysia, Uganda, and Tanzania on 15 December. In the year 2005 India hosted its debut International tea day.

There are two dates for International Tea Day, one is 15th December for all the nations as mentioned above and the second is the day 21st May that is observed in the United States of America and United Nations. This day was taken when in 2015, the government of India proposed to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation to expand International Tea Day across the world then subsequently, the UN General Assembly decided to resemble 21st May as International Tea Day. Yet India and the rest of the Asian countries still manage to follow 2005’s set date of 15th December.

So optimistically, the whole world celebrates every day as International Tea Day because almost every nation has a crowd that is addicted to daily tea consumption.

In India, Tea is also called Chai, ever wondered why it’s called Chai? The word Chai has a resemblance with the Mandarin (Chinese) word Cha. The initial consumption of tea could be traced to the northeastern regions of India and some parts of China. Many Chinese texts mentioned the consumption of tea for thousands of years before now. The Tea was first brought to the world by Dutch, during their exploration of the southeast Asian Continent during the 17th century. The tea was initially considered as famous medicine before it became an exotic drink.

The International Tea Day focuses on raising awareness towards the new generations and to make them known to its benefits, economic significance, and ancient culture. There was once a time when consumption of Tea was only limited to the people of the Elite class, such as Kings and Emperors but soon the Tea became a common man’s beverage.

Since Tea is a never-ending business, it has helped many nations in aiding their citizens in terms of uplifting them from a state of poverty and also boosting the Nation’s overall economy.

If made and consumed appropriately Tea could be a healthy beverage that is also a rich source of a beneficial antioxidant called flavonoid. These Antioxidants have a detoxifying effect that cells from free radicals further protecting damages like blood clot formation, atherosclerosis, and even prevents cancer.
