Track COVID-19 With Your Smartphone Under Hour!

COVID-19, the word just hits the wrong chord right? Yes, we feel the same. Taking into consideration the rising corona cases and preposterous attempts to vaccinate its existence, the scientists have now come up with a tech boon that can detect #COVID-19 under half an hour.

Scientists have developed a CRISPR- based #COVID-19 diagnostic test that will use your smartphone camera to detect if you are a victim of the virus that took under 30 minutes.

As we speak of the test, it not only provides the presence or absence of the virus but also detects the viral load or we can say the virus concentration in a given sample.

According to the researchers, the sample is placed in a device that can attach to a smartphone. The smartphone camera, essentially converted into a microscope, can detect the fluorescence and report that a swab tested positive for the virus.

The technology detects the presence of RNA from the SARS-CoV-2, activates Cas 13 and cuts the reporter molecule which causes a fluorescent signal thus identifying the viral presence.

The CISPR diagnostic test is an explicit example of stupefying capabilities as it eliminates the conversion and amplifications that are required to convert viral RNA into DNA, making the process less time taking and complications.

The CRISPR directly detects the viral RNA and skips the amplification steps. “The reason we are excited about this diagnostic test is the quick, accurate results and its potential of accuracy” said a senior investigator at Gladstone Institutes, Jennifer Doudna.

"This is especially helpful in places with limited access to testing, or when frequent, rapid testing is needed.It could eliminate a lot of the bottlenecks we’ve seen with COVID-19," Doudna said.

Various scientists have tested their devices using patient samples and found positive results as it could provide accurate and fast results for samples that have the viral load.

The CRISPR- based COVID-19 diagnostic test device accurately detects a set of positive samples under five minutes while the device requires around thirty minutes to distinguish positive and negative test.
