Home Minister Amit Shah had once commented that the BJP's golden era will commence once they begin to rule from the Panchayat to the Parliament. Little did he know that it would get trending on the social media platforms in the upcoming future. After the revocation of the special status of Jammu & Kashmir, many critics and analysts pointed out that the Modi led government would cease to be influential in the state. However, the recent performance of the BJP in the state DDC elections tells a different story altogether. The party's incharge for DDC polls Anurag Thakur commented:

According to sources The District Development Councils (DDCs) are set to become a new unit of governance in Jammu and Kashmir. Legislation to this effect was brought in by the Ministry of Home Affairs on October 16 through an amendment to the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989. Along with it, the J&K administration has also amended the J&K Panchayati Raj Rules, 1996, to provide for the establishment of elected District Development Councils in J&K.
The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) is a political alliance between the multiple mainstream regional political parties of Jammu and Kashmir. The alliance has seven mainstream political parties who have joined hands to fight for the restoration of special status and statehood of J&K.
