#Einsteinfails: Russia launches cyber attacks on the US once again
The Cold War may have ended after the proclamation of Glasnost and Perestroika by Gorbachev. The KGB may have been disbanded but espionage still remains a reality between the two super powers.
The US government has spent billions of dollars on defense yet they were unable to counter the Russian espionage attacks on the state as well as the private companies. In a recent revelation, quite ironically, the private companies have identified a wide range of cyber attacks since spring, but was detected only few weeks ago.
Twitter has been flooded with netizens demanding an investigation into the matter and raising concerns over security. The defence department and the budget allocation which is the highest in the world is being criticized:
Terms such as "cyber attack" are trending on social media platforms such as twitter:
The US Cyber Command installed defensive sensors all around the country, a system named "Einstein" to deter the nation’s enemies from picking its networks. But Einstein missed it !probably because the Russian hackers brilliantly designed their attack to avoid setting it off. The National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security were looking elsewhere, focussing on protecting the 2020 Presidential elections.
It is been speculated that Kremlin intelligence officers from the command unit APT-29 are behind orchestrating these attacks.
According to a report published in the New York Times, "the new American strategy of defend forward — essentially, putting American beacons into the networks of its adversaries that would warn of oncoming attacks and provide a platform for counterstrikes provided little to no deterrence for the Russians, who have upped their game significantly since the 1990s, when they launched an attack on the Defense Department called Moonlight Maze."
The National Security Advisor was immediately called back from the Middle East to assess the situation.
In September this year, President Vladimir V. Putin was urging for an armistice in the “large-scale confrontation in the digital sphere,” where the most damaging new day-to-day conflict is taking place.

Stunned by the attacks, Senator Richard Blumenthal, Democrat of Connecticut, wrote: The classified briefing on Russia’s cyberattack left me deeply alarmed, in fact downright scared. Americans deserve to know what’s going on.
For once, yes, Americans do deserve to know what is going on.
