ALL DAY HUNGER STRIKE | FARMERS SEEMS TO INTENSIFY AGITATION

Farmer union majorly form Punjab has declared an all day long hunger strike for today, starting from 8am in the morning till 5pm in the evening. The farmers have signalled this as start of a new mode of protest with agitation higher than before, this is to increase the pressure on the central government of India.

“We want to wake the government up. So, 40 farmer leaders of our United Farmers Front will sit on hunger strike today at all borders points between 8 am-5 pm. Twenty five of them will sit at Singhu border, 10 at Tikri border and five at UP border,” said Harinder Singh Lakhowal, general secretary of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU).

The farmers are protesting against the recent introduction of new farm bill by the parliament. The law providing famers with ‘will to sell’ have been receiving a divided response from all farmers across the Nation.

The protesting farmers demand complete abrogation of the new farm bill that has majorly three laws as follows:

  1. Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act
  2. Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act
  3. Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act

All above three laws have already been into effect following approval of The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. The farmer leaders also said that protest will be happening in other parts of the country as well, major district headquarters will be venue for marching farmer’s protest.

Chief Ministerr of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal also came in support of farmers protest and has requested all of his Aam Admi Party workers, supporters and rest of the citizens to join the farmer’s agitation. He insisted everyone to fast wherever they are in support of farmers in the protest. Arvind Kejriwal himself is holding a one day fast in support of farmers protesting at Delhi borders.

"Centre is being stubborn about our demands. This is an attempt to wake them up," says Balkaran Singh Brar, Working President, All India Kisan Sabha, Punjab

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh condemns Delhi CM’s comments on the matter, calls it ‘exploiting’.

AAP is exploiting farmer’s struggle for their petty electoral agenda in Punjab with blatant lies and brazenly false propaganda”, said Capt. Amarinder Singh, C.M Punjab.

The protest has already stretched from for 20 days and now more aggressive marches with banners, posters, and slogans against the ruling government are coming into picture. These farmers from Punjab and Haryana are demanding the revoke of entire farm bill and we need to wait and see how this matter comes to negotiation leading to a final settlement.
