Amid Pandemic and Farmer’s Protest why #boycottJio is trending?| Impacts on Reliance JIO
A rising trend of public backlash against #farmersprotest has turned a different curve recently. People on social media has started hashtag #boycottJio this is an outcome of on-going farmer’s protest where farm leaders have decided to boycott all products of Industrialists Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani among which the Reliance Jio is the most commonly spread product among citizens. Reliance is one of the leading mobile telecom operators by the market share. The boycott notion that started from farmer leaders has now jumped on social media and has become one of trending topic of discussion.
Ever since the launch of Reliance Jio, it has marked a revolution for telecom industry, benefiting nationwide consumers. The telecom company have dropped data tariff charges to as low as INR 3 per Gigabyte of internet, forcing all other telecom companies to comeup with similar pricings.
Now this move with regards to farmer’s protest is dealing great damage to the Reliance Jio’s Brand Value. As of September 2020, the market share data revealed by TRAI stated Reliance Jio at top with 35.19 per cent followed by Bharti Airtel at 28.44 per cent and Vi at 25.73 per cent.
The public outrage against Reliance Jio would also damage the image of prominent Businessmen such as Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani. The matter has also started pulling strings to the Prime Minister Modi and same is identified on the social media where people have gunned them with various allegations.

Abhishek Baxi, a digital consultant on twitter says “Airtel and Vi should send volunteers at Singhu border to help protesting farmers port out of Jio after their call to boycott Jio. Heh”
Lawyer and a former Aam Admi Party member Prashant Bhushan says “Farmers also want to do away with middle men like Modi & Shah!”
