Judiciary expresses its indignation over the state's attitude on farm laws

The Supreme Court has expressed its displeasure over the negotiations between the government and the farmers who are protesting over the recent farm laws. The top court said: “Let those farmer unions who say it is progressive say that before the committee. But you have to tell us whether you stay the farm acts or we do it. Keep it in abeyance. What is the issue? We are not in favour of easily staying a law but we want to say don’t implement the law”.

The bench comprising of CJI Bobde Bobde, A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian further stated, “Some people have committed suicide, old people and women are a part of the agitation. What is happening?”  The bench went ahead to add that not a single plea has been filed that said that the "farm laws are good.”

No conclusion seems to be derived even after eight meetings have taken place between the state and the ones protesting.

The Supreme Court has stood by its earlier decision which allowed the farmers to protest in a peaceful manner. The ultimate failure to reach a plausible conclusion has compelled the judiciary further to initiate a committee to look further into the matter.

The problem seems to arise as the Government wants to discuss each postulate of the policy while the farmers want nothing but a complete repeal of the law.
Legal website "Live Law" took to twitter:

The Attorny General Shri K.K.Venugopal argued: “The law is a crystallisation of the recommendations of several committees, If your lordships stay the law, it will cause tremendous loss to the 2,000 farmers.”

The committee, as per report,s will be headed by CJI RM Lodha, however, the court would require further time to reach a conclusion in this regard.
In the ongoing tussle between the state and the farmers, the entry of the judiciary is expected to provide some relief. The farmers have been protesting for over months and on an average basis, almost one farmer has died each day. Affirmative action along with a proper conclusion needs to be drawn in this regard.
