The Swift Entry-Exit Of Kapil Gujjar With Bhartiya Janta Party| We Were Unaware Of His Past Activities: BJP Spokesperson

Kapil Gujjar, the 25-year-old man who allegedly fired at least two shots in the air near Shaheen Bagh in New Delhi in February and warned anti-CAA protestors gathered there to disperse, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, only to be thrown out less than two hours later when the party's local unit realized who he was.

BJP officials said Gujjar entered the party along with his supporters in a ceremony where sweets were distributed and his induction to the party was cheered at the city unit's office in the Nehru Nagar region.

Post the event of Gujjar’s induction into the party, the president of BJP’s city unit, Sanjeev Sharma told media, “Today, Kapil Gujjar joined with hundreds of his supporters and he has influence in his area. The youth have joined the party as they like our party’s policies; the way our Prime Minister works; the way our chief minister Yogi Adityanath ji works and also the way our state president Swatantra Dev Singh ji is working to strengthen the party.”

As news of Gujjar's entry into the party went viral on social media, the city unit of the BJP was heavily counter-attacked by netizens on Wednesday.

Sharma hastily issued a statement stating that certain members pretending to be from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had approached the BJP for admission and among them was Kapil Gujjar. He said the party had not been informed of Gujjar's relation to the Shaheen Bagh controversy, and once it came to light, the state leadership instructed the city unit to cancel his membership with effect immediately.

Following the event of Gujjar’s admission into the National rulling party, the social media experienced a surge against party’s decision and finally leading to Gujjar’s eviction from the party within few hours of membership.

“#KapilGurrjar the one who opened fire on #CAA #NRC protestors in #Jamia has officially taken membership on #BJP in Ghaziabad today,” a social media user mentioning the event by captioning the video.

“Hours after AAP member and ‘Shaheen Bagh shooter’ Kapil Gujjar joined BJP, BJP expels him after knowing about his background,” said OpIndia.com, a news and opinions website.

“Man, who opened fire at Shaheen Bagh protesters, formally joins BJP; Delhi Police had earlier described Kapil Gujjar as AAP worker,” said Indian media group Janta Ka Reporter via its official Twitter handle.

The Hindu Newspaper company while taking a dig on the matter tweeted through its official Twitter handle “#KapilGujjar , who allegedly fired shots in the air in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh in Feb. 2020 to oppose the anti-CAA protest, joined the #BJP on Dec. 30 at the party’s Ghaziabad office. However, hours later his membership was revoked.”
